Description

The American Public Human Services Association (APHSA) is searching for Intern Consultants! We are seeking ambitious talent that is passionate about events and conferences.

APHSA is an association representing state and local agencies in the health and human services field. With and through these members, we work to advance solutions that are centered on administering, overseeing, and aligning programs to provide access to food, health care, housing, employment, childcare, community support, and other key building blocks.

Our events team at APHSA needs an innovative, solution-oriented action taker who will add to our collaborative team environment. We are looking for someone who thrives in a team environment. In addition, we need someone who is comfortable being on multiple cross functional internal teams to advance the work both internally and externally with kindness, compassion, inclusion, and a can-do spirit. 

Position Description

As an intern, you will gain critical experiences to take with you as you build your career goals to becoming a meeting professional. These experiences include but are not limited to:

  • Hands-on experience:
    • managing speakers for multiple conferences
    • Working with Registration Manager to prepare for multiple conferences
    • menu development for food and beverage events, budget management, and other related logistical elements
  • Assist with managing registration calls and inquiries.
  • Opportunity to
    • write pre-staged messages for social media, conference app, and e-mail marketing
    • assist with building of content for conference chatbot and conference app for multiple conferences
    • stand up projects related to specific conferences or events from start to finish with oversight by respective team members
    • work directly with contracted vendors
    • research and make recommendations for specific segments of events
  • Work with membership and marketing to develop marketing templates and messaging to cross-promote conferences to increase attendance
  • Participate in marketing committees of conference planning committees and interaction with members
  • Help with research on membership database to clean-up data which will include making phones calls and internet research
  • Travel to conferences and serve as part of the on-site production staff, based on availability and class schedule.
  • Research contact information to identify and determine agencies that can assist with specific projects.

SCHEDULE

  • 20 - 25 hours per week average (some weeks could be longer)
  • Weekend and evening availability

COMPENSATION

 A stipend will be offered to qualified candidates.

LOCATION

APHSA offices are in Arlington, VA. Hybrid working arrangements are available. Will need to be available to come to the VA office to assist with preparation of freight shipment for events.
